PFOA & PFOS Removal and Your Drinking Water
Perfluorinated chemicals is a term that some scientists use to refer to the group of toxic chemicals and other per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) are two perfluorinated chemicals commonly used in stain resistance products, along with fire fighting retardants and fire-resistant clothing. Parts of the Airway Heights community have been affected by these chemicals in part due to the use of fire retardants in the Airway Heights area. If you are worried about perfluorinated chemical removal fr0m your drinking water Kinetico has the K5 filter certified to remove perfluorinated chemicals from your drinking water.
What are the health effects of perfluorinated chemicals?
It is feared that perfluorinated chemicals will be our next water crisis because the compounds do not break down. Once they are in the environment, they seep into the soil and spread through our rivers and lakes. This contamination isn’t only hurting our ground and lakes but is a serious health issue. Results of long term exposure to perfluorinated chemicals are still poorly understood. However, cancer and birth defects have been associated with long term exposure.
We always recommend doing your own research on potential health effects and removal of perfluorinated chemicals and any consumable contamination.
Perfluorinated Chemical Removal methods
Kinetico has two perfluorinated chemicals removal systems that are used for residential application in homes with perfluorinated chemical contamination.
- Whole house absorptive media using a specifically designed carbon system.
- Point-of-use Reverse Osmosis (RO) for drinking and cooking water. Kinetico RO systems will reduce levels of contaminates to well below the MCL and, in most cases, leaves contaminates undetectable. An RO faucet is added to the kitchen sink and the refrigerator, when applicable.
